Description: They dominate the Petrosani Depression and the Jiu Gorges, gently lowering towards south, being the rockiest and highest mountains in this group. The central steep slopes border two large excavations, the place of glacial lakes.
Location: These mountains are part of the Southern Carpathians, the Parang mountainous group and they are limited in east by Valcan and Retezat Mountains, in east by Capatanii Mountains, in north by Sureanu and Lotrului Mountains, and in south by Horezu Depression.
