Mihai Eminescu


Mihai Eminescu (1850-1889) the greatest Romanian poet, also a prose writer and an active political journalist.


1850: Mihai Eminescu is born at Ipoteşti on January the 15th as the seventh child of the Eminescu family
1858: Between 1858 and 1860 Eminescu attends the primary school
1860: Between 1860 and 1861 he attends the Ober gymnasium in Cernăuţi
1867: Eminescu is hired as prompter in the Mihail Pascaly’s theatre
1869: On the 2nd oh October he is admitted at the Philosophy University in Wien
1872: Between 1872 and 1874 he studies in Berlin where he gets in touch with all the great writers of that time
1873: He gets a job at the Romanian Consulate in Berlin
1874: Mihai Eminescu is the director of the Central Library in Iaşi
1876: He is proof reader and editor of the unofficial part of the Curierul de Iaşi newspaper
1877: Eminescu leaves Iaşi and moves to Bucharest where is editor at Timpul newspaper
1878: Mihai Eminescu has an intense writing activity at Timpul and Convorbiri literare newspapers
1883: In January he is in hospital
1883: On the 4th of June he returns to Iasi and he becomes very ill from the 28th of June
1884: He leaves the hospital after another period of illness and makes a trip to Italy. Then he returns in Bucharest
1884: On the 7th of April he moves once again at Iaşi
1886: During the summer he becomes alienated, his illness comes back, maybe more serious than ever. Soon he’ll feel better
1887: In the spring, he is at Saint Spriridon hospital in Botoşani
1888: The disease gets more serious and he can’t write anymore
1889: On the 3rd of September he is again in hospital
1889: Mihai Eminescu dies at doctor’s Şuţu sanatorium, on the night of June 15th at 3 am
1889: On June 17th, Mihai Eminescu, Romania’s greatest poet, is buried at the Belu cemetery in Bucharest
