1. the hall
Welcome to the Castle! We are now entering in the first room of the Bran Castle. It is a very simple one used only by the person in charge with the fortress access. The only interesting thing here is the big fireplace, which is specific to the age of the building. You can notice the presence of some iron objects like this vessel.

2. the guardians' room
This is Guards' Room. It is placed after the entrance hall, on the right. During the Middle Ages it was used as the castle's guards' room but sometimes it was the dinning room. From its windows placed on two walls soldiers could supervise both the castle's entrance and the way that led to the gates.

The room is not open to public. You can admire only its impressive carved door designed in the gothic style.

3. the prison

Bran Castle was used by Dracula Voivode as fortified citadel on the fight with Turks. Under its walls there were tough fights againsts the Turks, which were defended. The castle was a princely prison, too.

The castle had a protective and commercial purpose. It had two rows of walls closing the passing towards South. They were made in stone and brick. Only few traces of the initial defense position still exist. The undersized building of the ancient Post Office had a pit with 6-8 rooms and a cellar also used as prison. It hasn't been preserved.

At the end of XIX century, the castle was abandonment. In 1920 the castle was lived by Royal Family of Romania, which made some changes.
Nowadays, the castle is a splendid Museum of Medieval Art. The visitor is impressed by massiveness of building.

5. the fountain (elevator room)
A radical change in the functionality and the decoration took place in 1921 when queen Maria of Romania established her summer residence in Dracula’s castle. The royal court architect Mr. Carel Liman changed the destination of a lot of spaces; for example: the gunner’s room become the royal chapel, the defence gallery of the tower was transformed into apartments for the ladies of the queen’s suite. It was also then that he created the fourth floor which was destined to the queen’s secretary. But the most spectacular modification was to install an elevator in the fountain from the interior court; with the elevator and throw a tunnel queen Maria could reach the beautiful park down in the valley.

6. the gunner's room (the royal chapel)

Built on top of a rock in the pass between the Bucegi and the Piatra Craiului Mountains, the fortress was used to protect Brasov against Turks and later served as a customs house. The castle has four towers. The oldest tower, Powder House Tower, houses the Cannon's Gallery and the Gunner's Room. During the 15th century, the Observation Tower and Eastern Tower were added. In 1622 the Gate Tower was added, a Polish attic was attached and the south curtain wall was tickened up to 3,5m (11ft.) thick. More renovations took place in 1723 and in 1883.

Placed on the bottom of the Gunpowder Tower this room was the Bran Castle's Gunner's room (a long time ago), the Queen's Chapel last century during the Middle Ages. Later the Castle's defence role was abandoned and in the 20th century it become the Queen's Chapel. You can still see the thing contain holly water on the right side of the image and a candle support on the left.

The room is not visitable.

7. the defense gallery
The ancient Gunners Room became the Royal Chapel, the defense gallery of the tower was remodeled into apartments for the Queens ladies in waiting. A fourth floor was added to the tower for the Queens Secretary. Queen Maria had an elevator installed in the fountain which is in the interior court. The elevator descended 197 ft. to a tunnel which opened onto the lovely park grounds in the valley below. Bran Castle has been opened to the public for at least 40 years, a museum, it offers glimpses into the past, such as the Chancellors Office, the Council Hall and the Garrison Rooms. Also on display are lovely examples of feudal art, weapons, statuary, furniture and hunting trophies.
8. the interior court
Let's take some fresh air! You are now in the interior court of Dracula's Castle. You see the south-eastern side of the castle. The first thing you see is the castle's fountain, carved in stone in the Renaissance period, having only a decorative role now.

Behind you can see the defence gallery, which surrounds the castle at its second level; it presents some little openings in the walls in order to ensure a good visibility to all the directions.

One level higher is the Balcony, which offers you a superb panorama on the castle's court, towers and surroundings.
