Curtea de Arges Monastery - the building began in 1512 and finished in 1517 during the reign of Neagoe Basarab (1512-1521). The craftsmen that worked here were well known at that time and, the legend says, they were led by Craftsman Manole and under the direct supervision of the voivode Neagoe Basarab. They used limestone from Albesti, marble and mosaics (broght probably from Constantinopole). The paintings were made by Dobromir the Painter in 1526. The monument is raised on a high and large socle, after the similar Armenian or Georgian buildings, the model used in Constantinopole at that time. The walls are decorated with rectangular or semicircular niches with stone ornaments around. Where the arches meet, there were placed gilded stone pigeons with bells in their beaks, which used to ring when the wind was blowing. Above the nave there is one spire, clubs shaped, and above the pronaos thre are three. The roof is made by lead, worked with the hammer. The surface of the monastery is of 756 square metres and is 31 metres high. The exterior remained generally the same from the time of Neagoe Basarab.
